Murder Suspect Surrenders in Coral Gables
Suspect is accused of a brash murder inside a market.

CORAL GABLES — A suspect wanted for a brash daytime murder inside the South Miami Market surrendered to Miami-Dade police on Monday afternoon at his attorney’s office in the 900 block of Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
Terrance Carter, 22, of the 11700 block of SW 221 Street was taken into custody without incident and charged with murder and a weapons’ offense related to Friday’s murder of a man at 5940 S.W. 68th Street in South Miami shortly after 11 a.m.
Police said the killing followed an argument over a woman, which began outside the market and escalated.

“The dispute escalated when the defendant produced a firearm and shot at the victim while outside the store, nearly striking him,” according to the arrest complaint.
Carter allegedly followed the victim, who was identified as 22-year-old Markeith Nickles of the 18600 block of NW 27th Avenue, Miami Gardens.

“Continuing, the victim then fled into the store and the defendant pistol whipped the victim before shooting him in the chest,” police said. “The defendant then fled the scene northbound on foot.”
Meanwhile, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the Nickles dead on the scene.
“The entire incident was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras. Additionally, an eyewitness identified the defendant through a sequential photo stack line-up as the person who fatally shot the victim,” police said.
Police said that the defendant surrendered to investigators at about 1:45 p.m. on Monday.
Carter was convicted in 2012 of burglary and grand theft, according to police.
