Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. It's a new day for the Deerfield Beach Chamber with an emphasis on keeping the focus local (newpelican.com) — Deerfield Beach's Chamber of Commerce is officially returning, backed by $200,000 in city seed money and a major sponsorship from JM Family Enterprises. Local business leader Judy Lovely Mergilles has incorporated the new chamber, assembled a board, and will house its staff downtown, with a public launch party set for Oct. 2 at Embassy Suites.
2. Saving the old school auditorium may once again be on the agenda (newpelican.com) — Deerfield Beach's new budget sets aside $250,000 to evaluate restoring the 100-year-old Deerfield Beach Elementary School auditorium as a performance and event center, a project that could ultimately cost around $3 million through 2031. City officials and preservation advocates see the historic Mediterranean Revival building as a much-needed arts venue, but its future now hinges on feasibility studies and a formal agreement with the school board.
3. Mobile selected to join Love Your Block program to support community projects (mynbc15.com) — Deerfield Beach has been selected alongside Mobile and other cities for the Love Your Block program, which funds small, resident-led neighborhood improvement projects. The initiative, backed by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation, supports efforts like clearing vacant lots, reclaiming public spaces, and strengthening ties between residents and city hall, giving locals new tools to shape their own blocks.
4. Cooper City Cowboys Sweep Deerfield Beach, West Broward In BCAA Tri-Meet; SoFlo's Harran, Diaz, Young, Berthelotte, Iino Win (wordpress.com) — Deerfield Beach High's swim teams had a tough outing in Monday's BCAA tri-meet at Cooper City, falling to both Cooper City and West Broward but still posting a few strong individual boys' finishes. Local swimmers like Becket Menacho and Maxime Martini Jr. helped Deerfield Beach stay competitive in key events against some of Broward County's top programs.
5. Foley Represents EMS, a Wynnchurch Portfolio Company, in Acquisition of AMD Supply (foley.com) — A Deerfield Beach–based company, AMD Supply, has been acquired by EMS, a larger aluminum products distributor headquartered in Lake Worth. AMD, founded in 2006, supplies fencing, hurricane shutters, and aluminum products across the Southeast, so the deal could influence local contractors, builders, and homeowners who rely on its Deerfield Beach operations for materials and service.
