Beloved DFAC Director's Life To Be Honored In Art

The Dunedin Fine Art Center expects a large turnout of artists and students to honor former executive director Nancy McIntyre.

Those who knew and loved the former executive director of the are celebrating her life Friday (Sept. 23) in a most fitting way.

Ken Hannon, associate executive director for Dunedin Fine Art Center, explained that the event will afford guests the opportunity to create their own piece of art honoring . She passed away of cancer on July 29 at age 61.

“We’re hosting this for David Shankweiler, Nancy’s husband,” Hannon said. “Everyone is invited to bring art and make art while they are here. We are an art center and she was an artist.”

McIntyre served as executive director at the Dunedin Fine Art Center from 1986 until 2004. She is credited with creating the and expanding the community arts program.

The two-hour celebration-of-life event will feature photos of McIntyre as well as some of her art work. Guests are encouraged to share thoughts about the former director and art supplies will be provided.

Catherine Bergmann, curator and director of adult education for the Art Center, said guests should be ready to laugh, mingle and celebrate.

“I’m sure it will be a very joyful night,” Bergmann said. “Absolutely. She wouldn’t have it any other way.”

The Celebration of Life for Nancy McIntyre is at the , 1143 Michigan Blvd., from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. No RSVP is required.
