Board Of County Commissioners Extends State Of Local Emergency To June 19
Trending data shows a recent uptick in total Coronavirus cases and positive test results.

June 5, 2020
The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners on Friday extended its State of Local Emergency declaration for COVID-19 from June 12 through June 19. The action was taken because the Board does not have a scheduled meeting next week. It allows County Administrator Barry A. Burton to authorize expenditures needed to ensure public safety, such as replenishing personal protection equipment supplies, and further positions the County to seek federal reimbursement of expenses.

Pinellas County is now under Phase II of Governor Ron DeSantis’ Ron DeSantis’ Safe, Smart, Step-by-Step Plan for Florida’s Recovery. But despite the easing of restrictions, the County is strongly urging citizens not to underestimate COVID-19. Trending data shows a recent uptick in total cases and positive test results, so residents and visitors are reminded to spread out where possible, wash hands frequently, and clean high-touch surfaces regularly. The County also strongly recommends individuals wear masks when out in public, especially in crowded places.
Gov. DeSantis’ Phase II order outlines the greatly heightened risk COVID-19 poses to senior citizens and/or individuals with underlying significant health conditions. It strongly urges them to avoid crowds and take measures to limit their exposure to the virus. All citizens are encouraged to not congregate in groups larger than 50 people.
