This Ain't Your Daddy's Congress!

A look at our ever growing dysfunction.

Thinking back on past congress's you know the title of this is true. I am a firm believer that debate is good. Talking things over is better than shooting things out. What sets this congress apart from so many in the past is one major flaw.

  Humility, or lack there of.

Our current lack of humility is extreme. To be an extremist takes a lot a work, it's not easy. But most of all, to be an extremist means you don't have a single humble bone in your whole body. Nothing enters that tiny mind of yours except "the cause". Lack of humility makes you blind to others and their troubles, it also makes you blind to the accomplishments of others. Lack of humility may be the leading cause of why history seems to repeat itself sometimes.

Right up front let me say, I am at fault for this too. Even though I am what you might call a progressive moderate, I find myself getting frustrated at times and falling into the trap of stereotyping. I judge the book by it's cover and let lack of humility blind me. That's right about the time my wife verbally slaps me in the head and says "are you going to help with dinner or not because I'm pretty sure that computer keyboard is not going to chop up these onions". Lol, I do love her! But she's right, if you become so consumed in a cause that you forget to live, well, then your dead.

We need conservative minded people and liberal minded people. Both bring valuable ideas to the table. Both are needed to hash out a path for this country and it really should not matter what the number amount of either is because one without the other is useless.

Let's take driving a car as a practical example. If your car only turns to the left or only turns to the right you will get nowhere. You will just be going in a circle. So whether your a liberal minded or conservative minded person your mindedness is void if you are unwilling to cooperate with the other.

A good example of our congress's lack of humility is their obvious disregard for history itself. When a group of people whether it's a congress or a whole country thinks it's better than everyone else in the world and better than history itself. That country and/or congress always spirals into the ground, crashing and burning. If you think for a minute that can't happen here in America then you need to check your own humility levels because they are very low! The idea, that "if we can just survive is good" is a joke. The best part of freedom is living not surviving.

I really thought those prepper shows were dumb on TV until I started to see their point of view. That's does not mean I'm a prepper but I finally took a step back and tried to look at it from their angle. When you look at us from a distance you can't help but feel like we are a huge dysfunctional group of people hell bent on our own demise. Our actions make preppers want to go into survival mode. So now when I see those shows I understand their thinking. They are, in a way, letting humility drive them. They know they can't take on the whole world but they want to protect their family and live on. It's really a huge sign when you think about.

Here we have a whole segment of our population that is saying you guys are so screwed up that my family and I are going to prepare for you guys killing each other. Hello!!!!! Big red flag!!!!
You don't have to agree with them, like them or anything else but you do have recognize the sign. We are lacking the humility to realize that we are not better than others, that my idea is so much better than yours so you must be wrong. Lack of humility.

I'm sorry to report that my wife will be unavailable to get our nation back on tract as I feel I need her worse just to keep me in line. And I'm sorry I don't have a clear answer how to fix congress and their lack of humility but I hope, given enough time they will snap out of it and move forward.

But Hey! What do I know! I'm just a plumber!
