Computerized "smart-gym" concept debuts in Dunedin

First-time entrepreneur returns to Florida roots to open high-tech fitness studio as alternate retirement plan

Dunedin native Krysti Kovarik, 58, is returning home to her roots to pursue entrepreneurship in the booming fitness industry as her alternate retirement plan. After being a client herself for three years, she is the first to introduce the innovative, high-tech fitness studio concept of the “smart-gym” (solely uses computers and robotics vs. traditional equipment like weights, treadmills, etc.) called The Exercise Coach to Florida, beginning in Dunedin, and hopes to open at least one more in the Tampa area. In August 2015, she opened The Exercise Coach in Dunedin at 924 Curlew Road, Unit 101, in the Caladesi Shopping Center. Kovarik is a great example of the type of client The Exercise Coach caters to most: busy professionals along with retirees in or around the baby boomer generation. She also fits the trend of many of the company’s franchisees as she, too, is opening the business instead of settling down into traditional retirement.

Outfitted with high-tech computerized machines instead of traditional equipment, The Exercise Coach offers highly personalized programs optimized for efficiency, resulting in only two 20 minute workouts per week that can’t be matched in effectiveness with even seven days a week of traditional activity-based exercise. The national franchise offers a unique, comprehensive approach to fitness designed with the unlikely exerciser in mind. Clients perform just two 20 minute sessions per week, combining bio-adaptive exercise technology with the knowledge and encouragement of personal trainers. The centers create a dynamic exercise experience that is suitable for people of all fitness and confidence levels.

“After being an Exercise Coach client myself for the last three years, I was eager to jump on board and bring the concept back to my home town,” said Kovarik. “Its immediate effectiveness is superior to any average, big-box gym or traditional exercise method. At first, I was skeptical of the impact of only two 20-minute workouts twice a week. However, after using the technology myself and getting amazing results, I realized it was unlike any fitness method I’ve ever experienced before, the difference was dramatic. I’m thrilled to offer locals here the perfect alternative to the big-box gym scene.”
