Dunedin Becoming the Bicycle Capital of Pinellas County

A Dunedin city initiative to promote bike use as an alternative transporation method has let to funky, artsy bike racks throughout the city.

Dunedin is beginning to transform into the ultimate bike city of Pinellas County.

Thanks in part to project funded by the city for artists to come up with unique bike racks that mimic specific businesses, it in turn is promoting alternative transportation.

For example, at the Dunedin City Library, local artist Bill Coleman designed a bike rack where it appears bicyclists are parking their bikes between giant pages of a book.

There are several other racks throughout the city that businesses have installed. It's part of an effort city officials have implemented to promote bicycle transportation. Other unique bike racks are in the shape of fish at the Stirling Commons development on Broadway near the Broadway Deli.

Other artsy bike racks include a dog and cat at the  Dunedin Animal Medical Center, a pirate ship at the Bayshore Express Mobil and a half-fish at the Dunedin Marina.
