Dunedin Preparing For Big Earth Day Celebration

A day full of events with proceeds geared towards helping the community are on tap for the Dunedin Life and Light Lantern Festival and Parade.

Dunedin citizens and leaders like to boast how the city is so environmentally friendly. Thus, Earth Day will be hopping in Dunedin.

On Sunday, April 22, will be buzzing with activity as the hub of the Dunedin Life and Light Lantern Festival and Parade. The community eco-art festival raises funds for Planting Seeds workshop series and the One Percent Food Project to help foster a local organic food movement.

The Dunedin Harvest, one of the sponsors of the event, is a leader in the Bay area offering a weekly organic market that supports local organic farms, growers and offers outreach on how organic food promotes both a healthy lifestyle and a greener planet.

Beginning at noon and lasting until 9 p.m., some of the events include live music all day, free lantern-making workshops for both adults and boys, gardening demonstrations, a kids village, a drum circle, food offered at three different downtown locations and at 8 p.m., the Life and Lantern parade.

The lanterns made throughout the day will be used to light up the parade route.

Three downtown restaurants are also sponsoring the event. , and will donate funds to Planting Seeds workshop series and the One Percent Food Project.

Planting Seeds is a free organic gardening workshop series offered to the general public.  The workshops provide free ongoing education to local residents with topics including Florida vegetable gardening and other sustainable living practices. The Dunedin One Percent Food Project is a community organized sustainable living initiative. The goal of the project is to encourage one percent of all households in Dunedin to pledge a small part of their land and their time to grow food. Growing food brings health, vitality and food security to individuals and our community.
