Dunedin Residents Encouraged To Reduce Use Of Plastic Bags
The bags can also be recycled by placing them in designated boxes at grocery stores.
What's the deal with recycling plastic bags anyway?
- Plastic bags become tangled in the machinery at the sorting plant. This can damage machinery, back up the sorting process, and be dangerous for workers to climb into the machinery to remove the plastic bags. Do your part by NOT recycling plastic bags in the blue bin. Also, never place recyclables in a plastic bag. Always keep them loose for processing. - See below for ways to reduce, reuse, and properly recycle in participating programs.
Reduce
- Reduce single-use plastic bags by refusing to take them during checkout. Bring your own bags or carry your items out without a bag. Make sure to keep a receipt with you!
- Use reusable shopping bags and reusable produce bags. The key is to use them over and over again! To keep them nice and clean, wash them occasionally.
- Upcycle a t-shirt into a reusable produce bag - video here.
