Home Rule is the ability for a city to address local problems with local solutions with minimal state interference. Home Rule Hero Award recipients are local government officials, both elected and non elected, who consistently responded to the League’s request to reach out to members of the legislature and help give a local perspective on an issue.
"I’m honored to receive the Home Rule Hero Award because it recognizes my commitment to the Dunedin community and my passion for local self-government. As the government closest to the people, a city has a unique bond with its citizens. Protecting Dunedin from one-size-fits-all-legislation is meaningful advocacy, and I thank my colleagues on the Dunedin City Commission for lending their voices of support to the same."
