A Much-Needed Dialogue on the State of Today’s Politics
In the 2012 presidential campaign, the issues have never been more significant: national health care, trillion dollar annual deficits, and a staggering economy with high unemployment, yet the campaigns have never been so trivial. Why has the focus of the campaign been on gaffes and misstatements when the issues the nation faces are enormous? Are politicians and their negative campaigns to blame? Is the media responsible for not holding politicians accountable? Do voters share some of the blame for not requiring candidates to address the big issues?
The Florida Humanities Council invites you to come and discuss the current issues affecting American politics and what could be done to correct the breakdown in civil discourse. A brief overview will be presented by Darryl Paulson, Professor Emeritus of Government at USF, who will then facilitate the community discussion.
