Opening Reception and Gallery Talk for Three Exhibits

Enjoy a gallery talk from 6pm to 7pm and an reception from 7pm to 9pm, celebrating the opening of three exhibits with the theme of the artist as an island traveler or explorer.

All three exhibits run through August 11. Here's how DFAC describes them:

  • In "Three Islands," Maine artist, Bill McCarthy exhibits a photographic series created in three environmentally and geographically distinct island locations: the active volcanic island country of Iceland; Bailey Island off the coast of Maine; and local barrier island, Caladesi. The images capture an ancient world in today’s light, but ultimately, each image is a world unto itself.
  • "Others, Elsewhere," by Sarasota photographer Aydelette Kelsey, explores the role of artist as traveler. These photographically captured moments from other worlds celebrate what poet Wallace Stevens, called “the voluptuousness of looking.”
  • "CASTaway" features works of DFAC’s members who translate the title theme in all media.
