Fans of the Week: Joe & Mike DiSalvo

The elder DiSalvo remembers watching his daughter cheer in the late 1970s.

Two fans were particularily focused to the actions on the field and festivities around the stadium for the on Sept. 30.

Father and son Joe and Mike DiSalvo had not been to a football game in a long time, but agreed that homecoming and the gathering of the alumni would be the perfect opportunity to revisit the football field.

"Back when Mike and his sister Sandra went to Dunedin, we used to follow the football team all over the state," Joe DiSalvo said.

"Sandra was a cheerleader for four years and graduated in 1982, and she currently works for American Airlines. She just loves coming back to Dunedin," Joe added with a grin.

Mike DiSalvo graduated from Dunedin in 1978. He was a member of the science club, history club and Young Life.

Mike went on to serve in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003 to 2010).

Joe is also a veteran of foreign wars: the Korean War and World War ll. He also served on a naval destroyer.

"My son is the greatest, he bought me a brick from the old (St. Louis) Cardinals Stadium, and I am big Cardinals fan," Joe said.

Joe has lived in Dunedin for 40 years and has been married to Alberta, affectionately know as Pinky, for 52 years.
