Island Earth Days Takes Over Honeymoon Island

The two-day celebration of Mother Earth this weekend offers something for everyone on one of the prettier spots on the west coast of Florida.

There are few better ways to celebrate Earth Day and to be one with nature than to explore the natural beauty of Honeymoon Island. With that in mind, a two-day Earth Day celebration will take place at Honeymoon Island this week, April 14-15.

Load up the car or truck because each vehicle will be charged $8, up to eight people per vehicle for .

Among the many events at the dog-friendly celebration will be live music, a kayak race, rain barrel workshops, bungee jumping, rock climbing, food (including fresh seafood), drink (including beer and wine), arts and crafts, vendors, an educational Osprey Village nature area, guided walks into the woods and on the beach, nature talks and presentations, all sorts of activities and crafts for kids and plenty of shaded picnic areas near the beach and wooded hiking trails.

The fun begins each day at 10 a.m. and lasts until 6 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Included in the scheduled entertainment are Polynesian dancers, Celtic folk music, Scottish pipes and standard, relaxing beach music.

The festivities are sponsored by "Friends of the Island Parks" and "Honeymoon Island State Park."
