Man Uses GoPro Camera to Capture Domestic Abuse

His recording helped put his estranged wife behind bars.

While the majority of domestic violence victims are women, that’s not always the case.

A Pinellas County man with a military background recently went to great lengths to prove that point. The man, whose name is not being released, attached a GoPro camera to his belt to document his encounters with his estranged wife as the two go through a bitter divorce and custody battle involving twin 2-year-olds.

During a custody exchange last week, the man’s GoPro was rolling as usual when his wife allegedly reached down and grabbed his genitals with force. The man was attempting to unbuckle his son from a car seat when the footage shows what appears to be his 37-year-old estranged wife reaching in for the painful tug, WTSP reported.

The man explained to WTSP that he’s been using the GoPro for a while to help prove his points in court. Domestic violence, the man told the station, “seems to be overlooked when the man is a victim.”

As for the estranged wife, she found herself behind bars Monday when a Pinellas County deputy witnessed her violating a pre-trial release order related to a previous domestic violence arrest. According to a probable cause affidavit, the woman, whose name Patch is not releasing to protect her estranged husband’s identity, violated a no contact order by conversing with her estranged husband during a child exchange that was conducted at the Sheriff’s Office Administration Building in Largo. A desk deputy observed the interaction, the report states.

The wife remained behind bars Tuesday morning without bond, jail records indicate. She has been charged with domestic violence and violation of pre-trial release.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence estimates that one in four men have been the victims of some form of physical violence committed by an intimate partner. One in seven men are the victims of severe domestic violence.
