Mike Lowry Named Firefighter of the Year
Lowry was named Dunedin's 2011 Firefighter of the Year by his fellow firefighters for his dedication, loyalty and kindness.
The Dunedin Fire Department praised Mike Lowry, 48, for his service to the department and the city since 1999.
During his 24-hour shifts Lowry has maintained his upbeat attitude through life's challenges including raising a special needs child and a recent battle with throat cancer.
"I want to say working with the Dunedin Fire Department has been an awesome experience. It does not even seem like a job," Lowry said. "Going through all I have been through, I have had so much support. I could not be down, even if I wanted to be."
