More Than A Mailbox

Artist-couple Carol Sackman and Blake White are the owners and creators of this expressive mailbox on Alamo Lane. (Feel free to add to the album.)

When driving through the neighborhood, Carol Sackman and Blake White's mailbox stands out on Alamo Lane.

It was the first part of their home to receive a bright and eclectic artistic touch-up when they moved there in 2000.

Sackman, originally from New York City, and White, from Wisconsin, met in Baltimore.

"We've been married for 26 years and been together for 32," Sackman said.

Sackman studied art at Maryland Institute College of Art and has been a long-life teacher and artist. White is self-taught and is just as passionate about art as his wife. Together, they have pieced together a home of mosaic art that has a distinct style and flair. Their home, which features a large mosaic arch in the front yard, has also been featured in Dunedin's event for about eight years.

The couple draws inspiration from the mini dramas played out within the small ecosystem of egrets, ducks and even an alligator at the small pond near their home.
