Rosa Park Bench Dedicated At Church In Dunedin
More than 125 residents were on hand for the unveiling of the Rosa Parks Bench at Faith United Church of Christ in Dunedin.
DUNEDIN, FL — More than 125 residents were on hand for the unveiling of the Rosa Parks Bench at Faith United Church of Christ, 1650 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin, Saturday, according to a news release.
The bench, located in the butterfly garden at the church, is intended to be a place where people can sit, pray, read, talk and contemplate the contributions of civil rights hero Rosa Parks, church leaders said.
On Dec. 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Parks refused to leave a row of seats reserved for white passengers and sit in the Black section of the bus. She was arrested and that sparked a bus boycott led by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and other activists.
