Traffic Detours for Two More Weeks as Construction Continues Along Edgewater Drive
A planned two-week project to relieve flooding along the waterfront in Dunedin will have traffic detroured.
Traffic remains closed and traffic rerouted along Edgewater Drive in Dunedin and will remain so for at least two weeks as construction workers install a series of stormwater pipelines.
The construction company, Keystone Excavators, Inc. of Oldsmar, is installing the network of pipelines along a half-mile stretch of Edgewater. The construction has affected traffic for the intersections of Citrus, Broadway, Douglas and Highland avenues.
Reached Tuesday, Dunedin city officials noted that the construction has been delayed slightly due to the wet weather.

"We've run into a good bit of water [due to the] weather over the weekend and that has slowed progress a bit," Dunedin city engineer Tom Burke said. "But we are on track in having the structure completed this month. It's going slow because of the wet conditions but we are doing well considering the conditions."
Because the crews are currently working on the western edge of the construction site, Burke believes it has kept traffic interruptions to a minimum.

For the next two weeks, through traffic will be rerouted from Sunset Point Road in the south to Highland/Patricia Ave. north to Main Street and then west to Broadway.
In short, construction crews are digging a 10-foot hole into Edgewater Drive at the Orangewood Ave intersection. Then, the crews install drainage pipes that will jut into St. Joseph Sound. When crews complete that task, they will move east, linking eight-foot-long, eight-ton sections of pipe along a nearly half-mile section of Orangewood Ave.
The construction is due to a long-term issue local residents have had with flooding in the area during storms. This project should relieve that.
Residents in the work zone area with special access needs (medical services or deliveries) are asked to contact the city for accommodation.
