The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Dunedin.

Good morning, Dunedin! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to enjoy the holidays, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and your usual curator will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Dunedin Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today. — Danielle Fallon

Here are the top stories today in Dunedin:

  1. Nearly three months after a Sep. 30 fire damaged Dunedin's Water Treatment Plant, city officials say water hardness is finally back to pre-fire levels. Director of Public Works Paul Stanek said there will be a gradual reduction in water hardness as the City's pipes are flushed through. Although the plant's reverse osmosis process has been repaired, the water plant is not yet at full capacity, so the City is still asking residents to do their best to conserve water. 2. Want to celebrate the holiday with your community? There are lots of holiday services and events happening right here in Dunedin! Check out these Christmas Eve and Day celebrations at local churches like Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and Unity Community Church. (Dunedin Patch)
  3. According to Zillow, Dunedin is the No. 2 most popular retirement town in America, right behind Lavallette, New Jersey. "Retirement towns" are defined here as areas where at least 33 percent of the population is over the age of 65 and has no children or other relatives other than their spouse living in the home, per the latest available U.S. Census data. Seven out of the 10 most popular retirement towns are in Florida, says Zillow. (Zillow)

From my notebook:

  • After the holidays, don't throw your Christmas tree in the trash. The City of Dunedin says Christmas trees can be reused or recycled for mulch and other purposes. Prepare your Christmas trees for recycling by removing all decorations, including hooks, garland, tinsel, and lights. (Facebook)
  • The City of Dunedin reminds residents that their toilet is not a trash can! Items like wipes, cotton balls, and dental floss may be labeled "flushable," but they are not. These items do not break down like toilet paper in the wastewater system and cause clogs. (Facebook)
  • Dunedin's Family Network on Disabilities will be closed from Friday, Dec. 24 to Jan. 3 to celebrate the holidays. (Facebook)
