It was on a cold Buffalo Sunday before Thanksgiving many years ago that I learned one of life’s most important lessons.
The week before, I asked my third grade religious education class to make a list of the things that they were thankful for and to bring their papers to class so that we could share them with one another.
Just as we finished the last student’s list, Melissa, a bubbly blonde-haired burst of energy turned to me and asked, “Where’s your list, Mr. McQueen?” I didn’t have one. I was humiliated and embarrassed in front of a group of God’s children who were in my care for that hour of faith formation.

I never forgot Melissa or my painful lesson. So each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, I sit down and make out a list of what inspires my gratitude.
I just wanted you to know that since moving to the East Lake area many years ago, you have been on my list.

I’m grateful for my family, my neighbors, for those who serve on our homeowner's associations and keep our communities beautiful, and for our firefighters, police officers, and first responders who ensure our safety and protection.
To you, I want to wish the happiest and healthiest of Thanksgiving holidays. Enjoy your family and friends and celebrate the beautiful and vibrant community in which we live.
