Crash Near Cypress Woods Elementary Prompts Email From School

If you received an email from Cypress Woods Elementary about a car crash in front of the school, you might be wondering what happened. We contacted the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and got the details.

Parents of students at Cypress Woods Elementary received an email Thursday morning informing them of a car accident in front of the school.

A parent forwarded the email to us:

"There has been a car accident in front of the school this morning. Please expect delays and get here safely. Tardies will not be marked until a later time this morning."

We contacted the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) to find out what happened, in case you were wondering.

We were told that around 6:44 a.m., a 2004 Mercedes 230 driven by Catherine Rose Julian, 18, of Oldsmar was in the left lane of East Lake Rd., headed in the northbound direction. Julian made a left turn onto Lansbrook Parkway, and according to the FHP, she did not see a 2002 Nissan Xterra driving southbound on East Lake Rd.

The Xterra hit the right front of the Mercedes. Glenn Allen Johnson, 30, of New Port Richey, was driving the Xterra. He was transported to St. Joseph's hospital in Tampa with non-incapacitating injuries. A passenger in the Xterra was not injured. Julian was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash is estimated to have caused $8,000 damage to each vehicle.

Julian was cited for failing to yield to an oncoming vehicle.
