See Smoke? Prescribed Burn Underway At Brooker Creek Preserve
Do you see or smell smoke? The Florida Forest Service and the Pinellas County Wildlands Fire Team are conducting a 14-acre prescribed burn Friday in Brooker Creek Preserve.

If it seems a bit hazy and you smell smoke in the East Lake area Friday, it's because of a prescribed burn that's underway.
The Florida Forest Service and the Pinellas County Wildlands Fire Team are conducting the prescribed burn in the Brooker Creek Preserve. The 14-acre burn is about two miles northeast of the Ridgemoor subdivision. It's located on the eastern boundary of the preserve near the Silver Dollar Golf Course, according to the Pinellas County Communications Department.
Prescribed burns are conducted to improve forest habitats. They also help reduce buildups of vegetation which could become a fire hazard for forests and neighboring communities, according to the Florida Forest Service website.
