The city is using the event to gather your ideas and questions that will help shape the airport's long-term master plan and future improvements.
3. Duval school board tackles challenged books, volleyball incident, headquarters sale and employee discipline (firstcoastnews.com) — A recent Duval County School Board meeting revisited concerns over a Sept. 10 volleyball match between Fernandina Beach High School and Andrew Jackson High, where behavior raised questions about racially offensive conduct. While Duval leaders emphasized Nassau County's role in addressing the incident, local advocates are pressing for deeper scrutiny as both districts weigh how students should move forward together.
4. Aaron Bean, Maria Elvira Salazar push back on CMS proposal restricting remote patient monitoring (floridapolitics.com) — Fernandina Beach's own Congressman Aaron Bean is challenging a proposed Medicare rule that would sharply limit third-party remote patient monitoring, arguing it could hurt access for Northeast Florida seniors and rural residents. Alongside Rep. María Elvira Salazar and a bipartisan group, he's urging federal officials to target fraud more precisely so local patients can keep using telehealth tools to manage chronic conditions at home.
5. Jacksonville Bold for 10.7.26: Wyman at work (floridapolitics.com) — Fernandina Beach has added nearly 10 acres of new conservation land to the Ron Sapp Egans Creek Greenway, strengthening local wildlife corridors and public passive recreation space. Working with North Florida Land Trust, the city now owns and manages both donated and purchased wetlands, tying into the Amelia Forever Fund's broader effort to preserve remaining natural areas on Amelia Island for future generations.
