Momentum Matters, A Girl Scout Silver Award Project

In a bid to inspire more children to embrace fun, affordable fitness, third-year Cadette Girl Scouts from Troop 3535 in the Fossil Valley area, Annabelle and Audrey, have turned their personal passion for sports and wellness into a mission: “Momentum Matters.”

Their Silver Award project with the Girl Scouts of the USA (Silver Award being the highest honor a Cadette may earn) invites kids to get active through simple at-home exercises and engaging group activities. (Girl Scouts of the USA)

What they’re doing

• They created a dedicated YouTube channel, Momentum Matters, offering easy-to-follow fitness tips, movement games and motivational content designed especially for younger audiences.
• During the recent Fossil Valley Girl Scout Encampment (for Juniors and up), the duo hosted a “How to Train Your Dragon”-themed relay race activity, allowing girls to team up, run, jump and have a blast while earning their fitness and wellness badge.
• While they previously offered onsite badge-workshops for troop visits (hosting an entire meeting with lesson-plan and active games), they are now pausing the in-person offer but the digital channel remains very much alive—and in need of likes, follows and views!

Why this matters
Kids today face increasing sedentary habits and screen time. Annabelle and Audrey’s initiative champions movement as fun, inclusive and sustainable. Their emphasis is on accessible activity, meaning no fancy equipment, just play, teamwork and the energy of youth.
Moreover, their project aligns with what the Silver Award guidelines describe: girl-led exploration of an issue (physical inactivity), planning a sustainable “Take Action” project and sharing the story. (Girl Scouts of the USA)

About the Silver Award
The Silver Award is available to Cadette Girl Scouts (grades 6–8) who have completed a Cadette Journey, and involves identifying an issue they care about, exploring their community, devising a plan, putting it into action (typically ~50 hours) and then reflecting and sharing results.
