More Than Cookies: Fossil Valley Girl Scouts Deliver Joy, Hope, and Real Community Impact

The Fossil Valley Girl Scouts are proud to share the inspirational results of their recent community service efforts—proof that our girls are so much more than cookies. From birthday celebrations for families in need to Thanksgiving meals and hands-on volunteerism, our scouts are learning what it means to lead with heart, work with purpose, and serve with joy.

Birthday Boxes That Make a Difference
This year, Brownie Troop 33502 led the charge on the 2025 Birthday Box Drive, an annual initiative that brings smiles to children served by the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our families and neighbors, our Girl Scouts collected and delivered 46 fully stocked birthday boxes—each one designed to help families celebrate their child’s special day with dignity and delight.

The project kicked off on September 29, encouraging creativity and community involvement. Boxes poured in from troop meetings, porch drop-offs, and the Juliette Gordon Low Birthday Bash at Camp Dorothy Thomas. By October 28, over 30 kits had already been gathered; by November 6, the girls reached an incredible total of 46—just shy of the 50-box goal.

Each kit included essentials like cake mix, candles, and frosting, along with festive extras such as balloons, decorations, tableware, and small gifts. Volunteers carefully labeled boxes by age and theme, making it easy for the pantry to match them with families. St. Vincent de Paul expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting how cherished and needed these boxes are each year.
Serving Families at Thanksgiving

Girl Scouts don’t stop when one project is done—they keep giving. Junior Troop 33527 recently completed their Savvy Shopper Badge by budgeting for and assembling two full Thanksgiving meals for local families in need. During their delivery at St. Vincent de Paul, volunteers shared that the pantry had supported more than 130 families in a single day, leaving shelves almost empty. It was a powerful reminder of how vital—and ongoing—the need is.

For those inspired to help, the Family Life Center at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church accepts food donations year-round, ensuring families never have to face hardship alone.
