• Locals in Fort Lauderdale share their concerns as record-breaking heat wave continues across South Florida (wsvn.com) — Fort Lauderdale residents along Las Olas Boulevard are battling a dangerous heat wave, with heat indices topping 112 degrees and forcing many indoors. Locals and a pet daycare owner share how they're staying safe, from hydrating constantly to shifting dog walks and using splash pads, while a Memorial Healthcare doctor urges sunscreen, shade, and limited sun exposure.
• Coral scientists move 1,000 corals north to escape ocean heat (local10.com) — Reported from Fort Lauderdale, scientists with the Coral Restoration Foundation just relocated 1,000 corals from a nursery near Tavernier to cooler waters by Elbow Reef to protect them from record ocean heat. The move creates a "redundant gene bank" in the Keys and lets researchers compare how the same coral genotypes fare in different conditions as climate change drives more bleaching threats.
