LCPA appoints Carrie Davis as Chief Technology Officer (regionalgateway.net) — Fort Myers' airports are getting new tech and commercial leadership, with Carrie Davis named Chief Technology Officer and Jesse Flint appointed Deputy Executive Director and Chief Commercial Officer for Lee County Port Authority. Their work will shape cybersecurity, concessions, and overall operations at Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field that many residents and visitors rely on daily.
2. Pets, parents and plenty of fun (floridaweekly.com) — Families and pet owners in Fort Myers can enjoy a free Back-to-School Community Fair on Aug. 29 at the Gulf Coast Humane Society Veterinary Clinic on Arcadia Street. Expect kids' activities, pet-friendly fun, free family portraits with pets, resource tables, and information on affordable veterinary care. Local partners, including a Fort Myers law firm and pediatric dentistry practice, will be on hand.
3. UNI Men's Basketball Set to Compete in 2026 Fort Myers Tip-Off (ground.news) — Fort Myers will host the 2026 Fort Myers Tip-Off at Suncoast Credit Union Arena, bringing UNI, Davidson, Charlotte, Tulane and others to town for Thanksgiving-week games. Expect national college hoops attention focused on Florida SouthWestern State College's campus this November.
4. Kiwanis Club of Fort Myers wins first place for Edison science fair (naplesnews.com) — Fort Myers' century-old Kiwanis Club just earned first place statewide for its long-running support of the Thomas A. Edison Regional Science and Engineering Fair, which serves students across Southwest Florida. The honor highlights how local volunteers are helping young scientists from Lee and neighboring counties reach state and international competitions and win scholarships.
5. Florida cross-state waterway reopens after lightning strike 5 days ago (news-press.com) — Boaters who travel between Stuart and Fort Myers can once again use the Okeechobee Waterway after the St. Lucie Lock and Dam reopened Aug. 19 following lightning damage. The lock, one of five on the route to the Gulf at Fort Myers, may still see intermittent repairs, but daily operations have resumed. About 10,000 mostly recreational vessels use this cross-state passage each year.
