1. Lakes Park splash pads in Fort Myers are back after being destroyed in Hurricane Ian (naplesnews.com) — Families in Fort Myers can once again cool off at Lakes Park, where two rebuilt splash pads have reopened after being destroyed by Hurricane Ian. Lee County officials celebrated the new water play areas with a ribbon-cutting Wednesday, marking another visible step in the community's long-term storm recovery.
   

2. MOSAIC invites young musicians to join the 2026–2027 ensembles (floridaweekly.com) — Families in Fort Myers can now sign up young musicians for MOSAIC's 2026–2027 ensembles at The Heights Center on Hagie Drive, with Youth Philharmonic auditions set for Monday, Aug. 31. The program, based in the Harlem Heights neighborhood, offers advanced orchestral and string training that complements Lee County school music classes and supports local children with professional instruction close to home.
   

3. Major Smithsonian Institution exhibit coming to Okeechobee and Fort Myers (wgcu.org) — A major Smithsonian "Americans" exhibit is scheduled to stop at Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers from December 12, 2026, through February 6, 2027, bringing national-caliber storytelling on Indigenous history to local residents. The traveling show, part of the Museum on Main Street program with Florida Humanities, will include public programs that spotlight Southwest Florida's own Indigenous culture and connections.
   

4. Tim Curry shined on Fort Myers Beach: Exclusive (news-press.com) — Fort Myers Beach once played host to Tim Curry, who spent five days here in 2003 for the Fort Myers Beach International Film Festival, meeting fans, walking the beach and accepting a Star Achievement Award. Local organizers recall his kindness, humor and accessibility as they mourn the beloved actor's recent death after years of health challenges.
