After residents and WINK News raised concerns, Fort Myers Public Works began interim repairs and is designing a drainage solution while seeking bids to repave Jaylen Watkins Street and other troubled stretches nearby.
2. Beatles, Benise and folk music: September strikes different chords (floridaweekly.com) — September brings a packed lineup to Fort Myers' Music & Arts Community Center, from Beatles and Michael Jackson candlelight tributes to Benise's flamenco spectacle and a Gulf Coast Jazz Collective showcase. With concerts running Sept. 10–26 off Daniels Parkway, locals can choose from folk, jazz, classic rock tributes and even a British magic duo, all in an intimate neighborhood venue.
3. Fort Myers Beach parking crunch expected as Roar Offshore kicks off Friday (winknews.com) — If you're heading to Fort Myers Beach for this weekend's Roar Offshore boat races, expect tight parking and some key lots closed for repairs and event use. Town leaders urge visitors to bike, carpool, or use LeeTran and park-and-ride options, especially with Bowditch Point and spaces near Margaritaville temporarily unavailable.
4. Miami plane crash diverts flyers to Fort Myers, forces tough choices (winknews.com) — Hundreds of travelers unexpectedly ended up in Fort Myers Sunday night after an Amazon cargo plane crash in Miami forced dozens of flights to divert to Southwest Florida International Airport. Stranded passengers described scrambling for hotels, rental cars, or alternate flights as they weighed whether to wait in Fort Myers or start long drives home.
