• Collaboratory awards grants to Cape animal shelter, others (northfortmyersneighbor.com) — Fort Myers residents benefit directly from Collaboratory's recent $90,000 in "Arts and Animals" grants, awarded in the city and including support for the Fort Myers Community Concert Association and other local arts groups. The funding also boosts regional animal shelters and wildlife organizations, strengthening cultural life and animal welfare across Southwest Florida communities like Cape Coral and beyond.
   

• The monologue is like an actor's first handshake with a casting director (wgcu.org) — Local theater kids and parents may want to know that Cultural Park Theatre will host a Sept. 19 book signing for longtime area actor and instructor Gerrie Benzing, following its 7 p.m. performance of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
