FORT MYERS, FL (Aug. 22, 2019) – The personal finance outlet WalletHub.com has named Fort Myers as 2019’s 8th best city to retire in Florida. To determine where retirees might look forward to living out their best years in the Sunshine State, WalletHub’s data analysts compared more than 100 of its largest cities across 28 key indicators of retiree-friendliness. Some of individual category retiree-friendliness rankings (1=Best; 58=Average) for Fort Myers are as follows:
39th – Adjusted cost of living
42nd – Percent of population aged 65 and older
55th – Percent of workers aged 65 and older

13th – Fishing facilities per capita

“Fort Myers is trending with all ages, not just retirees,” said Mayor Randall Henderson. “We’ve placed an emphasis on attracting new residents with our abundance of local amenities, creating an irresistible quality of life.” The latest population estimates from the University of Florida's Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR) indicate the City of Fort Myers as of April 1, 2019 has 87,871 permanent residents, an increase of more than 7 percent from the city's 2018 numbers. The city's rate of growth has doubled; in 2018 the growth rate was 3.5 percent.
