Midwest Food Bank Responding To Hurricane Ida

Food boxes and cleaning supplies are being sent to those affected by the storm.

Midwest Food Bank is working to respond to Hurricane Ida impacting Louisiana and Mississippi. Loads of Disaster Relief have already been requested by The Salvation Army.

Two semi loads of family food boxes will be leaving Midwest Food Bank Bloomington-Normal tonight or tomorrow headed for the New Orleans area. Loads are being prepared in anticipation of more requests.

“We are blessed as an organization to be able to expand our reach across all states, as times of need continue to arise. We are ready to support the families impacted by Hurricane Ida,” says Karl Steidinger, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank Florida. “We are thankful for the faithful support of volunteers and generous donors making our disaster relief efforts possible.”

Family food boxes have enough shelf-stable food to feed a family of four for four to five days. As a Salvation Army First Responder, Midwest Food Bank can have relief on the road within 24 hours of a call.

Midwest Food Bank is also partnering with Somebody Cares to provide a semi-truck load of cleaning supplies including bleach, gloves, rags, shop towels and other supplies to support clean-up efforts from the flooding and destruction caused by Hurricane Ida.

“We are prepared to support the ongoing need for Disaster Relief food & supplies,” says Mike Hoffman, Logistics Director of Midwest Food Bank. “MFB anticipates additional loads to Louisiana and Mississippi in the coming week.”
