1. GRU reduces fuel adjustment charges (alachuachronicle.com) — Gainesville Regional Utilities is cutting its electric and natural gas fuel adjustments starting Sept. 29, trimming typical residential bills by several dollars a month. With base electric rates staying flat for a third year, GRU leaders say they're passing projected fuel savings directly to Gainesville customers who are feeling financial pressure.
2. GPD Detective arrested by the FBI (alachuachronicle.com) — A Gainesville Police Department detective, Kelvin Mattair, has been arrested by the FBI and faces state charges tied to alleged obstruction, computer fraud, and illegal interception of communications. Details remain limited, but the case involves a well-known officer from GPD's Gun Violence and SWAT units, and officials say more information will be released as the investigation continues.
3. Sister Hazel Band (flamingomag.com) — Longtime rock band Sister Hazel leans proudly into its Gainesville and University of Florida roots, from playing Gator Growl in The Swamp to growing out of the 1990s UF college scene. 5. Ritz Veterans Village announces new funding, keeping doors open for veterans (wcjb.com) — New federal funding will keep the Ritz Veterans Village in Ocala operating and also support 18 emergency residential beds for veterans in Gainesville. The contract aims to ensure homeless or at-risk veterans across North Florida, including here in Gainesville, continue receiving stable housing and support services despite earlier funding concerns.
