5 Things Patch is Covering This Week

1. The National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service and Gulfport Patch are all keeping an eye on Hurriance Irene. Gulfport Patch will provide updates and direct you to local emergency resources in our series .

2. Looking for ways to "go green"? Check out what Jamie McWade suggests. McWade shares everything from how to recycle greeting cards, to conserve water and even plant an organic garden. Learn more from McWade's column every Tuesday on Gulfport Patch.

3. Every Tuesday we say "Thank You" to volunteers in Gulfport. Check out the next volunteer of the week in Giving Back in Gulfport.

4. Stay tuned on Thursday for our business spotlight of the week. Reporter Bob Deakin takes you behind the scenes to find out how some of the city's best known businesses came to be in our weekly series . With more than dozens of local businesses featured so far, search to see if your favorite place has been featured!

5. There is an Emergency Crime Watch Meeting on Friday, Aug. 26th at 6 p.m. at the Gulfport Neighborhood Center. All is welcome. Officials will be discussing the proposed outsourcing of Gulfport's Police dispatch to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department. Gulfport Patch will be at the meeting and have more when it wraps up Friday night and Saturday morning.
