5 Things to Know Today: Thursday, July 28
The 2011/2012 Budget is up for discussion at today's Gulfport City Council Workshop, the Historic Fort De Soto is open and we have a 40% chance of rain.

1) The Gulfport City Council will discuss the Proposed 2011/2012 Operating Budget at today's workshop at 3:30 p.m. at Gulfport City Hall. You can view the City Manager's proposal, all 220 pages of it, on the city's website under Special Documents and Publications. The proposal is labeled "City of Gulfport PROPOSED Budget for FY 12". You can also see the other items on the agenda on the city's website in this section.
2) Come out tonight and learn about the foods and medicinal plants of the Tocobaga Indians. From 7 - 9 p.m. tonight, the First Florida Frontiers presents "Living in Paradise: Foods and Medicinal Plants of the Tocobaga Indians" at the City of Imagination Arts Center, 2725 54th St. S. in Gulfport. It's $5 for members, $8 for non-members.
3) Do you want to learn more about organic gardening, Florida-friendly gardening and more? Come to the Gulfport Growing Greener Meeting today at T & Me Tea Co. at 9 a.m.

4) The fort is open! Historic Fort De Soto, located in Pinellas County’s Fort De Soto Park, is now open to the public. It had been closed to the public for rehabilitation work, which is now completed.
