5 Things to Know Today: Tuesday, Oct. 25

Winners to be Announced, Fresh Market Today, High of 81 and more in "5 Things to Know Today."

1.) Who Was the Scariest?: There will be three winners in the annual Gulfport Recreation Division's Halloween Decoration Contest. More than 30 people came out last night to tour the homes, haunted houses and businesses. As soon as officials tally up the scores, Gulfport Patch will announce the winners. There are three categories: general, haunted house and commercial. There were 11 entries this year!

2.) The Fresh Market Is Back: Since the was canceled last week, due to bad weather, we know you're dying to get back out there today! The market is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features more than 50 vendors with food, arts, plants and more. Did you see our latest photo gallery from the market? 3.) Register for City-Wide Yard Sale: The Gulfport City-Wide Yard Sale is set for Saturday, Nov. 5. Have you registered for the permit-free event yet? All you have to do is: be a Gulfport resident and register today. Gulfport Patch attached the Brochure Listing Application on this post. Fill it out and hand it into Gulfport City Hall by Friday, 4:30 p.m., to get your home in the map brochure. You can also email your name and address to Gail Biron, Technical Events Specialist, at gbiron@mygulfport.us to get your info in the brochure in time.

4.) Pinellas County Commissioners Have Back-to-Back Meetings: Take a look at this schedule and see if you want to go or watch the action online or TV.

  • 8 - 9 a.m. - Commissioners will see a presentation regarding EMS
  • 9 - 11:30 a.m. - Commissioners will then workshop and discuss EMS
  • Noon - 2 p.m. - Commissioners to have joint meeting with Pinellas County Legislative Delegation in the fifth-floor assembly room of the Pinellas County Courthouse. (This meeting will not be televised.)
  • 3 p.m. Commissioners will hold regular public meeting
  • 6:30 p.m. - Public hearings begin at 6:30 p.m. Those wishing to speak on any subject, other than the public hearing items, may do so during the Citizens to be Heard portion of the meeting at 3 p.m. Only comments relating to public hearings items will be heard during the 6:30 p.m. meeting.

Commissioners meet in the fifth-floor assembly room of the Pinellas County Courhouse, 315 Court St. Clearwater. 5) Tuesday Forecast: It'll be mostly sunny with a high near 81. Expect a northeast wind between 10 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Tonight, partly cloudy with a low around 68. East, northeast winds between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
