5 Things to Know Today: Wednesday, July 19

Artists can soon submit their ideas for a new entryway sign, meet Commissioner Welch tonight and more in "5 Things to Know Today."

1) Come meet and greet Pinellas County Commissioner Kenneth T. Welch tonight at the Gulfport Public Library from 4 to 7 p.m. Welch is holding Community Office House in the Francis Purdy Friends Room. District 7 encompasses Gulfport, South Pasadena and parts of St. Petersburg. Come talk to Mr. Welch about the county budget and needs of Gulfport.

2) Gulfport City Manager James O'Reilly recommended City Council members allow artists to submit their ideas for a "piece of art that serves as a sign." This after the public expressed concern of the entryway sign that WRAB presented at May 26th City Council Workshop. Mr. O'Reilly will put out a "call for artists" soon, with a 45 day deadline for submissions.

3) Lawrence Tosi Jr. has was appointed by the City Council to the Gulfport Police Pension Board last night. Mr. Tosi's term expires in May, 2015.

4) Are you coming to the Gulfport Beach Cleanup? This grass roots event is on Saturday, July 23 from 8 - 11 a.m. R.S.V.P on the Facebook Event Page.

5) Here is your Wednesday forecast! We have a 20% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Otherwise, it'll be mostly sunny with a high near 91. Calm wind becoming west between 5 and 8 mph. Tonight, we have a 20% chance of rain before midnight. It'll be partly cloudy with a low around 80. We should have a west southwest wind between 3 and 7 mph.
