• Gulfport Council Approves FY27 Budget After Several Changes (thegabber.com) — Gulfport's new FY27 budget is set, keeping the property tax rate at 4.0258 mills while trimming funding for Flock license-plate cameras and a long-vacant Leisure Services director position. Council also boosted tree canopy funding slightly after residents raised concerns. Members declined a cost-of-living raise for themselves, and the next council meeting is Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
   

• Gulfport Council Delays Marina Rates, Approves Garbage Increase (thegabber.com) — Gulfport residents will see higher garbage, recreation, and Senior Center fees after City Council approved new rates, while delaying a decision on controversial marina increases. Council also funded plan review services, discussed a possible K-8 school, and postponed decisions on the former Lions Club property. The next council meeting is set for Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.
   

• USF researchers developed flood monitoring cameras; now their funding is running out (wmnf.org) — Street flooding in Gulfport from Hurricane Idalia is one example driving a USF project that uses fixed cameras and a crowdsourced app to monitor dangerous water levels across Pinellas County. Most cameras are in St. Petersburg now, with one recently added in Clam Bayou, but researchers warn their federal grant ends in 2026 and hope local governments will keep the system running.
