Health care debates and uncertainty continue. Now, more than ever, we need volunteers for SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders). SHINE volunteers provide information, counseling, and assistance on Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Advantage Plans, supplemental insurance, Medicare Part D (prescription drug) Plans, and long-term care. SHINE volunteers are typically problem solvers and lifetime learners with a desire to help their fellow seniors. SHINE counselors do not recommend or promote any products or companies. The information they provide is free and unbiased, in keeping with their goal of empowering seniors, their caregivers, and family members in making choices regarding their health insurance needs.
Volunteers receive initial training, continuing education, and a supportive environment with dedicated colleagues.
SHINE is funded through a grant from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and is operated in partnership with the state’s 11 Area Agencies on Aging
