Let’s concentrate on the FREE Entertainment aspect. On Art Walk evenings and special events there are many entertainers lining Beach and Shore Blvd. providing free musical and theatrical entertainment. However, there are a few local establishments that provide free musical entertainment on a regular basis, none with a more scheduled regularity than Gulfport on the Rocks. Sherrye posts the line-up on the glass sliding doors for all to see.
The Peninsula Inn and Spa is also another great venue for free live entertainment spearheaded by Tuesday nights with Sterling McGee and the Harlem Blues Band. You will need to keep up with their event board out front to see who is playing when for the remainder of the week. www.innspa.net
O’Maddy’s also provides lots of Karaoke as well as live music on Fridays and maybe other special occasions. www.omaddy’s.com The Art Village Courtyard also features a stage with live entertainment that is ever changing.
The City provides free entertainment, karaoke, dancing, depending on the day of the week in the beachfront Pavilion on Gulfport Beach. Sunday is the biggest draw with Woody and his accordion but there is always: Monday Karaoke by Cookie; Tuesday: “Copa Jane” Karaoke; Thursday: Karaoke Jam Session by the Toonsters: Friday: Dave and Cookie music and comedy hour: Saturday: Karaoke by the Toonsters and Lolita. www.thegabber.com
Entertainment is subjective, in Gulfport even more so. It could be music, it could be theater, it could be an artist giving a demonstration. It is all in the eye of the beholder. Never-the-less, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the Freebies of Gulfport, especially in entertainment.
