Vacation In Our Nation: 'Bayous to Farmlands'

Our second day on the road! Texas, Texas, and more Texas!

Day 2 of our road trip has come to an end!

We woke up at about 8:30, had breakfast at the hotel and were on our way again! And guess what? MORE RAIN!!!! We headed over to Starbucks (Mom and I can't live without our coffee), refilled the tank, and then headed over to Cabelas! You know you're a redneck when . . . at Cabelas, you purchase a shirt that says "I Fish and Tell", and a pair of camouflage earphones!

We got back on the road at approximately 11 and made our way through the seemingly ginormous state of Louisiana. We saw a lot of bayous, creeks, and a lot of trees, which is great! At about 2 in the afternoon we stopped at the Louisiana Tourist information center and had lunch. After lunch we went inside the building where they have a tree that was 248 years old when it was struck by lightning and moved to the building. That tree was 16 years old when the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Then we drove and drove some more until about 4:20ish when we stopped at the Texas Welcome Center for a bathroom break and a stretch. After we left the Welcome Center I listened to every country song on my iPod because I felt it suitable for the land we were going through. We saw a lot of farmhouses, fields, and crops including corn, sugar cane and soybeans. Then just about 7 o'clock we pulled into Paris, Texas, our final destination for the night. We ate dinner at Chili's and headed to the hotel.

Now, how about some interesting facts about Texas? Waco, Texas is the birthplace of Dr. Pepper. Jim Bowie, inventor of the Bowie knife, and Davy Crockett died at the hands of General Santa Anna's Mexican Army in San Antonio.

Now the answers to yesterday's trivia:

1. General Andrew Jackson

2. This is for the ParrotHeads, Mr. Jimmy Buffet himself!!

Today's trivia is:

1. What famous rock and roller from "The Crickets" was born in Lubbock, Texas?

2. Famous baseball pitcher, Nolan Ryan, was born where in Texas?

Our final destination for tomorrow is Dumas, Texas, then finally to Colorado on Tuesday! Talk to ya'll tomorrow! Ya'll have a good Monday (if that's even possible)!
