Vacation In Our Nation: Mountains and Wildlife!

Day 3 and our final full day on the road has come to an end!

Day 3 and our final full day on the road has come to an end!

I woke up at about 6:45, we had breakfast at the hotel and were back on the road by about 7:30. We drove through Texas and finally made it out of Texas into Oklahoma where we traveled the Indian Nation Parkway. Once we finished the Parkway, it was back into Texas, UGH!!! We had lunch at about 2 p.m. at the Texas Welcome Center where we made sandwiches and ate at the picnic tables. They also had grills by the picnic tables, shaped like . . . wait for it . . . The state of Texas. Also, the four bathrooms in the Welcome Center double as tornado shelters.

Our original plans had us stopping for the night in Dumas, Texas, but at the rate we were going, that put us there at 4:30 in the afternoon. So we decided to drive a few more hours to make it to Raton, New Mexico. Maybe about 20 or so miles outside of Raton we saw our first wildlife, Antelope, and saw our first mountains!!!! We made it to Raton at about 7ish, and checked into the hotel, where they gave us a coupon for dinner to a place called "K-Bob's Steak and Salad Wagon".

There is a 20,000 Acre Boy Scout Camp in Raton. Well, when mom and I take our train trips the train stops in Chicago, where, we pickup the boy scouts headed to the camp. All night long the boys are up and down the aisles, opening and closing the doors, and eating the train out of everything!! But they finally get off in Raton. Or sometimes, the train will pickup the boy scouts in Raton to take them back home. After several weeks in the forest, they are MIGHTY stinky!!! And again, they're up and down the aisles, opening and closing the doors, and eating the train out of everything!! Well, tonight, we walked into K-Bob's, and examined the place, we looked to our left and in horror, mom and I both hissed "Boy Scouts", because, there they were!! We just can't get away from 'em!!!

The answers to yesterdays trivia were both answered correctly by Gayle Distasio!! The answers were:
