Vacation In Our Nation: Trading with the Salida Firefighters

Loving the vacation so far!!!

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to post yesterday but we were very tired, even though we didn't do much. We all ate breakfast in our cabin, then mom, dad and I set out with one thing on our mind . . . GOLD!!!!

We went to a store called Roc Doc and got all the materials needed to go panning for gold (which we haven't done yet). Then we went to the Salida Cafe, which is right on the Arkansas River and had lunch. After that, mom, dad and I went to the Salida Fire Station. We brought some Gulfport Fire Department shirts and patches to trade with the Salida firemen.

While the firemen went to search their lockers for trade material we stayed out on the sidewalk with the chief. Then when one guy came back out with material, mom, dad and the chief went to look at the old fire truck, and left me out on the sidewalk to do the trading. So they asked me what my name was, and they introduced themselves and we started talking. They asked me "So, are you with your fire department?" I laughed and responded "No, but I do have a job with the department." Then they asked, "Well, what is that?" I responded, "I feed them." We all got a good laugh out of that. Then they said Firemen are to cookies as Police Officers are to donuts."

After that, it was the job of my cousin and I to make dinner that night. So we went to the store, got we needed, came home, and got to work. We made chicken, sweet potatoes, and salad. Well, we had a long day today, and I am awfully tired, so I'll post early tomorrow about what we did today. Good night!
