Car vs Bus Accident Blocks off Traffic on 49th St. S.

Officials have blocked off both northbound lanes on 49th St. S. near 18th Ave S. in St. Petersburg after a car vs bus accident.

Officers with the St. Petersburg Police Department blocked off traffic as officials tried to separate a PSTA Bus and a sports car Monday night. Both northbound lanes on 49th St. S. were closed.

The car vs. bus accident happened sometime between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Lisa Carter, of St. Petersburg, says the teenage driver of the car is her son's girlfriend. Carter says she dropped off her son and left their home. A short time later, the female driver was making a right turn from 18th Ave S. onto 49th St. S. heading north, when the small sports car collided with a PSTA Bus.

When asked about injuries, Carter said, "She was taken to Bayfront. I think she was mostly shaken up."

As of 8:30 p.m., Carter and her son were waiting for a tow truck to come and get the vehicle.

It is not known how many, if any passengers were on the PSTA Bus at the time of the accident.
