St. Petersburg City Council Member Wengay “Newt” Newton is coordinating this volunteer cleanup effort at historic Lincoln Cemetery, located on the edge of St. Petersburg and the city of Gulfport.
This cemetery is the final resting place for generations of African-Americans, among them Civil War veterans, community leaders and ordinary citizens, including Newton’s mother.
Volunteers are asked to lend a hand by bringing lawn maintenance tools, small equipment such as weed trimmers, water, and refreshments.
