Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

American Stage presents "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," by the late Tony Award-winning playwright, August Wilson. The stage is set to mid-1920s Chicago, where Ma Rainey and her troublesome yet talented jazz quartet gathers in an old music studio to record a blues album. Watch as the actors give life to each character through songs, stories and dream sequences in this one-act production.

The play takes a probing look at the music industry and the racially sensitive relationships between white record executives and African-American musicians. "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" will run through Feb. 13; check the American Stage website for showtimes. The show has mature content and strong language.
