How long have you been with the Gulfport Fire Department?

“Twelve years in total, two of them I was a volunteer.”

What do you like about your job?

“Helping people, there is always something different to do, and I like the variety in it because you never know what you’re going to come across.”

What do you dislike about your job?

“The schedules are rough on personal lives. We have to miss important holidays sometimes, and when we work overtime it is usually twelve more hours, which means our 24 hour shift turns into a 36 hour shift.”

What inspired you to become a firefighter?

“My friend’s uncle and grandfather were firefighters, and he also became one, and I decided too as well. Mid way through high school I became a fire explorer.”

What do you like about Gulfport?

“I like it's small town atmosphere. There is plenty of entertainment and I like the Fourth of July festivities here, as well as all the other events. I also like the small fire department; we are like a family here!”

What do you want the general public to know about the Gulfport Fire Department?

“People are not aware of all the small things that we do, such as; CPR classes, teach classes, fire safety checks, and if people call us, we will come out to houses for free to check any fire hazards. We want to prevent fires so we will help to try and prevent them. We also show up to car accidents because we can do everything that the paramedics can (d0) accept transport.”
