Flashback to Another Era: Children Climbing Trees
Remember when you were a kid climbing trees for fun? A southside St. Petersburg church is trying to turn back the clock for youngsters, only with more safety features.

Here are "Five Things to Know This Weekend for the first weekend of the month, July 7-8.
Weather: Saturday expect scattered showers after 1 p.m. with a high of 91, per the National Weather Service. Saturday night the temperature should drop to 78. On Sunday expect a carbon copy of Saturday with a 30 percent chance of rain. There could be isolated showers prior to midnight with a low Sunday evening of 81.
Cheap gas: Feel free to fill up your tank of gas for the weekend. Per GasBuddy.com, the cheapest gas in Gulfport can be found at Gulfport Super Gas, 2201 49th St. There, unleaded gas can be found for $3.05 a gallon.

Tree climbing: Lakeview Presbyterian Church, 1310 22nd Ave. South in St. Petersburg, offers a wholesome activity for kids from a bygone era: tree climbing. Youngsters six-years old and older can climb live oaks using harnesses and a rope pulley. The fun begins at 10 a.m. today and costs $15.
Sunsets on the Trail: Vendors selling arts and crafts, food and drink will line up along the beach trail in Treasure Island near the Bilmar Beach Resort, 10650 Gulf Blvd. There will be all sorts of fun for kids and live music throughout the day.

Alligator walk: OK, no one really wants to walk with alligators. But it is interesting to learn about their habitat. Nature lovers can take part in this exhibit at the Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, 1101 Country Club Way South in St. Petersburg. Cost is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children.
