Get Out: Weekend Events Preview Feb. 3 - 6

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Gulfport area.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

1. MONSTER TRUCK DISPLAY

Find out what's happening in Gulfportfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Where/When: Dairy Queen, 3101 N 66th St., St. Petersburg. Thursday at 4 p.m.

Why Go: Are you excited for Saturday's Monster Truck Jam in Tampa? Well here's a chance to see one of the featured vehicles before it hits the Path of Destruction! Driver Dennis Anderson's truck "Grave Digger" will be on display for the public.

Where/When: Thursday to Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday at 2 p.m. Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave S.

Why Go: The Island Community Theatre reprises Woody Allen's comedic film, "Play It Again, Sam," on stage. 

Pricing: Free, food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Where/When: Friday from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. The Art Walk begins at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom, and extends along the waterfront.

Why Go: This event features a variety of local artists and hobbyists showcasing their talents for the public. You'll find an array of unique gift items, paintings, sculptures, and jewelry, all handmade here in Florida.

Pricing: Free, food and drinks will be available for purchase.

3. WING AND ROCK FEST

Where/When: Vinoy Park,  501 Fifth Ave. NE., St. Petersburg. Hours are 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Why Go: Who doesn't love chicken wings? Whether you like them baked, grilled, fried, or spicy, there's something  here for everyone. Visit Vinoy Park this weekend for a day packed with entertainment and great food. The event features music by Bon Jovi and Journey tribute bands, performing authentic classic rock covers, kids play area, and a wing eating contest.

Pricing: Free, food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Where/When: 5500 Shore Blvd. S. on Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Why Go: Jazz musicians Stan and Katt Heffner, along with Butch Thomas, Vincent Sims and Ron Gregg will perform live at the Gulport Casino Ballroom. Enjoy an evening of smooth jazz, dancing and fun for all ages. Guests are welcome to bring their own refreshments.

Pricing: $15

5. BENEFIT CONCERT FOR FALLEN OFFICERS

Where/When: Sunday at noon. Hideaway Cafe is located at 1756 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.

Why Go: The Hideaway Cafe will host a benefit in honor of St. Petersburg Police officers JeffreyYaslowitz and Thomas Baitinger, lost in the line of duty on Jan. 24. Guests enjoy live music by the Trop Rock Junkies at 2 p.m., raffles, merchandise auctions and more. All donations will benefit the Suncoast Law Enforcement Charities, Inc..

Pricing: Free, donations accepted.
